In 1955, the youth of Andros, who were strenuously occupied with water sports such as rowing and sailing with their traditional little boats, requested from the mayor at the time, the ever memorable Michael S. Polemis, and the local wealthy families to help them for the foundation of a Yacht Club.

Following this initiative move, selected members of the Andros society along with the solidarity of the Board of the Municipal Administration of Andros Town decided to found the society Yacht Club Andros, which was established in 1957.

Establishing members (in alphabetical order) are the following:

Nikos Goumas, Ioannis V. Goulandris, Georgios Daniolos, Nikos Daniolos, Georgios L. Kambanis, Georgios Z. Kambanis, Zannis L. Kambanis, Leonidas Karapiperis, Aristeidis Karystinakis, Antonios L. Karystinakis, Lorentzos Kasimatis, Georgios Kondylis, Theodoros Kydonieus, Michael Logothetis, Michael Paleokrassas, Michael S. Polemis, Leonidas S. Polemis, Spyros E. Porfuratos, Dimitrios N. Rallias, Leonidas Stamatiadis, Michael E. Trikoglou, Dimitrios Vogiazidis, Perrakis Vogiazidis, Antonios I. Vrodisis.

Andros Town Municipal Administration granted a space next to the sea in the area of Neiborio where there was a little destroyed stone pier for the settlement of the Club to be built.
With the gratuitous designs and supervision of the ever-memorable architect Antonis D. Kriezis, the illuviations on rocks and shallow sea while also all the necessary protected works, for the construction of our Club and the piers, were completed. Furthermore, the old half-destroyed warehouses were also reconstructed in new depot storage for the Club boats.

Since then, the said settlements of the club are maintained and renovated by the Andros Yacht Club thanks to the dues and subscriptions, as well as the donations of many of our wealthy members.

The Club has become a point of reference for the water sports of the island and a meeting place for its members, many of which come on Andros every summer from different parts of the world.

Thanks to the Club, sailing, swimming and rowing dwelled as classic sports in the island and hundreds of young men and women have been trained and practiced. Many of these athletes rose at champions positions in National and European contests.

It is characteristic that during wintertime, every weekend, and on a daily basis in the summer time the Andros bay is full of the Clubs sailing boats.

The International Sailing Race of Andros, creator of which, was Ioannis V. Goulandris, started in1967 and continues every summer since then (with an exception in 1974 because of political-military reasons). The Saronic Gulf is set as the starting point with the first termination in the Harbour of Andros Town with a two day stopover, where a local luff - trebble race takes place, and then return to the Saronic. Many great sailing shippers have repeatedly taken part in the race.

Finally, it is important, but also moving, that throughout the years the Club has been embraced and supported by all big shipping families of the island, which stood by in all different activities.
